2009 Crab Feed

February 21, 2009

What a day!  And it didn’t rain.  A bunch of us met on Friday to marinate the crab and nail down a few details for the “Feed” on Saturday.  By 10:30 am on Saturday morning Bob Craig Sr. and Donna Alexander were setting tables, John Zuffi was preparing salads, Kathy Pedone and Joan Peterson were organizing the raffle with Steve Pedone, Barry Kinney, Gary Barrango, John, Gunard and Jeanine Mahl and Walter Caplan doing the heavy lifting.  I’m not kidding!  A case of wine weighs about 35 lbs and were hustled in about 15.  We moved tables from downstairs to upstairs and vice versa.  The rectangular tables came down and the round tables went up.  By about 2:30 pm we had things well in hand and were sampling several bottles of wine to check the quality.  Can’t take chances.  Crab Feeds live or die on the quality of both the crab and the wine.

We coasted a little between 2 and 4 pm.  The kids, our servers, from St. Anne’s of the Sunset arrived with Casey Martinez and John, one of the parents.  After a short orientation, they began setting out the water and antipasto.  By 5:30 pm the Monte Cristo Club was filling with revelers, talking, drinking and buying raffle tickets from Kathy Pedone.  Dinner, “The Feed”, began sharply at 6 pm.
