2009 Memorial Day at the Presidio

May 25, 2009

In what has become a Memorial Day tradition, club members assembled early on Monday morning May 25th at the Pacific Rod and Gun Club for coffee and pastries, in preparation for our drive to the San Francisco Presidio for the annual Memorial Day observance. The group drove together just as we had last year north on the Great Highway and then east along Lake Street, entering the Presidio through the Arguello gate.  We were met at the Main Post by club member Kev Enderby, who had driven his roadster slowly up the El Camino Real from Redwood City earlier that morning. At the request of US Park Rangers we assisted in raising the huge ceremonial American flag. Then at the appointed hour we lined up our cars and joined the official City and County’s 141st Memorial Day Observance and Parade and along with many others entered the Presidio National Cemetery, parking our cars in a row at a special spot set aside for us by the Mayor’s Citizens Organizing Committee. Our club members stood with the hundreds of San Franciscans and others in paying tribute to those veretans who served our Nation in uniform. The SF Model A Club was recognized and thanked both in the official program and from the podium for our continued participation in this annual event.
