2011 Oktoberfest with the Marin A's

September 10, 2011

The Club celebrated Oktoberfest with the Marin A’s at the Marin Rod and Gun Club on Saturday September 10, 2011, along with Napa A’s and Sonoma A’s.

We spent a lot of time reminiscing with old friends from other clubs. We talked about our tours together to the Gold Country when Ron Grassi was our Club President and active in both clubs. The Marin A’s tour to Ione was the maiden voyage for Walter Caplan’s newly restored A. Tom, Scott, Charlie, Victoria and I sat with Zells and the Baumsteigers, long time members of the Marin A’s. Marilyn and Dave Chiotti also joined our group.

Darryl Coe, decked out in a German organ grinders costume, played for the group. He made the occasion look and feel more like an official Oktoberfest. Scott took some great pictures of Darryl and the Model A’s.

Around noon the Marin A’s treated us to a wonderful BBQ followed by a raffle. We scored big in the raffle. We had three winners. Some of us had more than one winning ticket. I was one of the fortunate ones who came home with home made olives, a plant, several tools and a set of flashlights.

We were a little short on Model A’s. Darryl Coe drive his A. The rest of us were in modern cars. If the Marin A’s invite us again next year, we need to dust off the A’s and get them there.

It was a great day and we all had a wonderful time. Congratulations and thank you Marin A’s for the invitation to this very enjoyable event.
