2016 President's Brunch

January 17, 2016

Thanks to everyone who attended the President's Brunch. We had a larger crowd than anticipated - but no Model A Fords. John Zuffi brought his Cobra. Gunard Mahl was in his 34 Ford Rod. Charlie and Victoria were in their Corvette and Mike Cunneen drove his 32 Ford Phaeton. The rest of us were in an assortment of more modern cars.

We started the morning with treats, hot coffee, and Scott’s home-grown oranges at our meeting place at the junction of Highway 280 and Highway 92. We had two guests along for the ride. Walter’s nephew Aaron and his girl friend Ainsley were in town on a business trip and were able to join us.

Our short drive to Harding Park took us to Half Moon Bay and then north on Highway 1 toward Pacifica. Our rest stop was a public beach near Linda Mar. Here we enjoyed a hot cup of Clam Chowder courtesy of Chef Walter and the Club. Our soup servers, Jenny and Joan, were dressed in white aprons and were very skilled. Not one drop was spilled!

The day was clear and bright. The surf was up and surfers with their boards crowded the parking area. We set up the Soup Kitchen away from the guys and gals in wet suits on the hash marked no parking area and dispensed our soup. There was a cool breeze off the ocean – we all enjoyed a sip of warm Clam Chowder.

We arrived at Harding Park to find a crowd waiting for us. Some of us short-circuited the drive and went straight to Harding Park. We had an overflow crowd and the restaurant scrambled to accommodate our number. Eventually, we were comfortably seated, most at one large table and some of us at a smaller table nearby.

The President had missed the Christmas Party and was therefore late giving the Club Board of Directors their traditional congratulatory Christmas gift. So, in a crowded public dinning room, he managed with difficulty to say a few good words about our officers and present them each with a small gift wrapped in a hand written note thanking them for their service.

I was a good day. We all enjoyed the outing complete with coffee, muffins, and oranges to start, soup in the middle, and a great lunch at the end.
